On-chip Si photonics integration of semiconductor superluminescent diode toward miniature interferometric fiber optical gyroscope chip
Yi-Jen Chiu;Rih-You Chen;Yang-Jeng Chen;Cheng-Hui Dong;Yen-Chieh Wang;Yung-Jr Hung;Min-Chi Chan;Chia-Chien Wei;Wei Lin

A hybrid Si photonics integration has been used in developing interferometric fiber optics gyroscope on silicon photonics template. An on-chip Si photonic chip has been used as optical driver of IFOG. With employing wafer bonding technology, efficient optical coupling into Si waveguide has been realized by on-chip integration of SLD. Different SLD optical coupling schemes by hybrid integration will be discussed.

Optical Design of Light Guide Plate with Unilateral Light Emission for Innovative Curved LED Luminaire
Jyh-Cheng Yu;Tung-Min Hsieh

This study proposes a novel LGP design with unilateral light emission, which is applied to a curved LED luminaire without reflective sheet. The LGP adopts convex cylindrical features of ϕ1×0.7 (mm), which provides 90% illuminance on the feature side of LGP. A prototype is presented to verify the design.

Differential interference contrast microscope using liquid crystal Savart prisms as the shear devices
Shyh-Tsong Lin;Ting-Yu Chien;Jie-Jiun Liou;Huan-Chih Lin

A differential interference contrast microscope (DICM) is proposed . It is the same as a phase-shifting polarizing microscope except one liquid-crystal Savart prisms inserted in between the objective and sample and it possesses an advantage over conventional DICM of without mechanical movements when switching shear directions.

Design of Freeform Lens by Using Numerical Method to Convert the Laser Beam with Collimated Rotation-Symmetric User-defined Profile
Chen-Kang Wu;Feng-Ming Liu;Cheng-Mu Tsai

A freeform lens construction is proposed to form a specific rotation symmetric beam profile with collimation. The freeform surface is constructed segment-by-segment using a numerical method based on Snell’s law to produce an output beam profile which has both good irradiance user-defined profile and high collimation.

Design Methodology of Thin Telephoto Lenses by Using Sub-wavelength Structures
Tsung-Jung Chuang;Chun-Yuan Fan;Guo-Dung Su

In this paper, we describe a design methodology combining ray tracing, FDTD simulation, S-parameter method, and near-to-far-field transformation to establish a standard operation process for designing metalenses system with sub-wavelength structures. The results show a telephoto lens with FOV  20o and thickness less than 6 mm.

Two Major Problems in Designing an Effective Volume Holographic Optical Element and the Potential Solutions
Ching-Cherng Sun

Volume holographic optical element (VHOE) has been shown its potential to modern IT devices, including near-eye glass. A designer, however, has no an effective approach to design a useful VHOE. The reason is that there are two remain problems which must be solved in the design approach. This talk is aimed to discuss these two problems and the potential solutions will be proposed.

The development of a surface defect of ceramic substrate inspection system with a line scan camera for high and low-resolution
Hsuan-Wei Chang;Chun-Jen Chen

This paper build a measurement system, it has both high resolution and fast image recognition. In this system, a 4K line scan camera connects a macro lens with a focal length of 60 mm, and a linear light source is used to measure surface defects of the object.

Spectra manipulation with the photorefractive effect via the spatial–spectral correspondence relationship
Hsun-Ching Hsu;Pin Han

The photorefractive effect is used to manipulate polychromatic spectra. A sinusoidal phase grating is used to diffract polychromatic light. Theoretical analyses and numerical examples show that for different detection angles, the diffracted spectrum exhibits different features, and that specific spectral line selection or line filter effects are achieved.

Solution Spaces of the Zoom Curves of Two-Component Finite-Conjugate Zoom Lenses
Chaohsien Chen

Two-component finite conjugate zoom lenses are widely used in optical systems. Suitable combinations of the component focal lengths are essential for giving successful zoom curves. The solution spaces of the component focal lengths for solving the real and positive thickness from the first to the second components are described.
